Party opposition
The recently returned Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, of the People’s Democratic Party, has purportedly slated more than 500 civil servants for sanctions.
According to reports, the sanction on the civil servants was over their support of the opposition party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC), in the recent election in the state.
The affected civil servants, who work in the various departments, ministries and agencies in the state and are within salary grade level 8 and 17, might not be paid their monthly salaries for the months of December and January.
The state government allegedly set up committees in the different local government areas in the state to find out and note civil servants who supported the APC.
The names of the civil servants have been forwarded to the agency in charge of the payroll system in the state, Due Process Bureau, for “necessary action.”
The directive to sanction the civil servants reportedly stemmed from the office of the Secretary of the State Government and sent to the Office of the Head of Service (HoS) to the Due Process Bureau, headed by Timi Sipulo, who also doubles as Special Adviser to the governor on Treasury Matters.
Government workers at the state broadcasting corporation and sports council were affected most by the directive. The Bayelsa State government is yet to confirm or deny
